HTC one x vs Samsung Galaxy nexus
Htc's one x Smartphone is looking to take on the Samsung galaxy nexus to become king of the android Smartphone. Both devices are practically the same size and both run android 4.0 ICS, the one x with the much improved sense 4 overlay. Get ready for a comparison to find which of these devices reigns supreme.
Design
As mentioned earlier both these devices are incredibly similar in size, the one x features a 4.7" screen with the galaxy nexus sporting a slightly smaller 4.65"; both of which are gargantuan in comparison to the average Smartphone. In my opinion I think that the one x is the better built device with its unibody polycarbonate casing being comfortable to hold and oozing quality. The galaxy nexus on the other hand features a plastic construction which feels OK in the hand, but in comparison to the one x it lacks the premium feel that a device of that price should have. The galaxy nexus though has a removable battery cover which the one x lacks. If not having a removable battery cover is a deal breaker then the galaxy nexus id for you, otherwise the one x's supreme build quality wins out. |
Screen
Both handsets feature a 720p HD display, 720x1280 pixels, but both screens are of a different quality. The one x features a super lcd display that has an rgb matrix meaning that text is crisp, at times the screen looks like a page from a magazine, glossy and bright, one flaw I think the screen has is the lack of deep and inky blacks which the galaxy nexus' display produce with its pentile super amoled display. Just to say, I can’t tell the difference between rgb and pentile on displays with pixel density this high. The galaxy nexus produces brighter more vivid colours in comparison to the one x's display with superior blacks. Over the display on the galaxy nexus is better but both phones have screens well above par, matching the quality of apples iphone retina display whilst being a whole inch bigger. |
Software and camera
Both devices ship with android 4.0 although in very different forms. The galaxy nexus comes with stock ics, which features an improved ui and on screen buttons. The one x still uses capacitive buttons, and sense 4.The one x features a tegra 3 quad core 1.5 GHz processor, whilst the galaxy nexus has a dual core 1.2 GHz, skimming through menus and opening apps, I found no difference in speed. I’m guessing the sense ui may be more power hungry, making it a similar in speed to the galaxy nexus which is slick and smooth. Depending on what you like both software designs are intuitive to use, the galaxy nexus being fresh and simple, the one x being hugely customizable and detailed. The camera on the one x is a dual shutter 8 megapixel camera that simply trounces the galaxy nexus' 5 megapixel affair, and is not due to the megapixels. The one x allows you to shoot 1080p video whilst taking full 8 megapixel pictures, as well as burst and panorama modes. The galaxy nexus has a very fast shutter and great picture quality but lacks the features of the one x. |
Conclusion
Overall I feel that the one x is the more rounded device, and if sense is your thing then i feel this could be your perfect phone. But with a pure ICS experience the galaxy nexus is very nearly as good. Both feature solid cameras with the one x edging it on features. If you can fit a device of this size in your pocket the both are a viable option, but many people cannot stand Samsungs plastic construction, and with a beautiful polycarbonate shell the one x is the much better option. On value for money and build quality the one x is slightly better than the galaxy nexus, making it the king of the android Smartphone, if not all Smartphone, but the galaxy nexus is still a great option. |
